The Book

This is a book about bootstrapping—about building a business without taking a penny from investors. It is both a story and a playbook. It is a story about starting, building and bootstrapping a start-up from my spare bedroom into a global leader with a $50M capitalisation in a decade.

Bootstrap Confidential is also a playbook. It is a series of stories about every step a bootstrapper should take to build and grow their business from scratch. It is about lessons learned, mistakes made, and all the interrelated components that must work in harmony for a bootstrapping start-up to succeed. Bootstrapping a business is fundamentally different from building a venture-led start-up, where investor advice is frequently at odds with what you need to do as a bootstrapper.

It is a book about how to create the right blame-free, fun and risk-taking culture and turbocharge super-fast growth. It is about how to start fights with those much bigger and better organised, with way more firepower than you, why you should absolutely revel in the fight and most importantly, how to win.

It is about how bootstrapping is the most satisfying way to build a business and how to have fun as you do it.
